Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. (Metrobank) is one of the premier universal bank and among the foremost financial institutions in the Philippines. Metobank is also listed as a public company in Philippine Stock Exchange.
It is a member of BancNet, a famous bank organization in the Philippines composed of different local banks. Metrobank has also international branches in different countries around the world. Here in South Korea, they have branch in Busan. Just like other local banks such as BDO, BPI and PNB, Metrobank offers Internet, telephone and mobile banking.
Metrobank Savings & Checking Account Interest Rate
Perhaps you have already know the importance of interest rate. Before opening a new savings account at Metrobank, it is very essential that you know how much interest will you receive from the particular amount of money that you will deposit.
In addition, you need also to know the initial deposit, maintaining balance and the balance to earn interest for the type of savings account that you want to open. If you want to know more about that, you can click here to go to the post I published before about Metrobank interest rate and other stuffs.

How to Open a Metrobank Savings Account
When applying for a savings or checking account in Metrobank, it is better to bring complete requirements for faster approval and to avoid hassles. It is also advisable to apply online/Internet banking at the same time when you apply for Metrobank account.
Online banking is a good feature offered by many banks since it will give you access to your account anytime, anywhere as long as there is an Internet connection. Another benefit is that you can pay your bills online if you have online banking account.
In opening a savings or checking account in Metrobank, you need to follow the following tips for quick processing.
1. Decide first what Metrobank branch will you going to open an account. This step is very important because when the time comes you need to go to your bank, it will be easier for you to visit your Metrobank branch if it is near your residence or place of work.
2. Don’t forget to bring ball pen when opening a bank account since you need to fill-up application forms. It is better to have one than to borrow ball pen from other people.
3. Bring complete requirements when opening a bank account.
4. Have enough money for initial deposit which normally range from 500 to 10,000 pesos. It is better to have an initial deposit equal to maintaining balance to avoid fees later.
5. Proceed to new account desk upon arriving in the bank. Tell the bank officer you want to open a bank account. Then he/she will give you application forms; fill it up with the required data completely. Ask the bank officer when you have questions or in doubt.
6. After completing all forms, give your initial deposit together with the application forms and requirements to the bank officer for checking and approval.
7. Get you ATM or passbook after 3-5 banking days.Usually, ATM or passbook will be available for pick-up after 5 banking days had passed.
Wrapping Up
When opening a bank account at Metrobank, you must prepare all requirements before going to the bank like a valid ID, proof of billing, and the initial deposit for your new savings account. A savings account is a good tool to monitor and save your money if coupled with an Internet banking service so make sure to apply also for that one.

I already have a savings account with Metrobank, the thing is, I’ve changed locations and it would be hard for me to go to the branch where I opened my account. Are you allowed to have multiple accounts under the same name but in different Metrobank branches? Or do I need to close my previous account first before I can open a new one in another branch?

Hi Mr. Gil,
I just want to base my question from your reply to Ms. Dinna’s comment. Here it goes:
Hi Dinna,
I recommend BDO because you can link your savings account to buy mutual funds or stocks in case you consider it in the future.
Metrobank has also international bank.

Dinna asked which bank is better, BDO or Metrobank and you recommend BDO for you can link your savings account yo buy mutual funds or stocks. Is it only BDO who offers this service? I already have a BDO account and I also engage in TD, UITF, and MM. I’m considering of opening an account(s) on other banks but I’m looking into a bank that’s with the most convenient way/means in linking your savings account to other special accounts that the bank offers. Do you know of other banks that offer similar services with that of BDO in terms of linking to special accounts as well as banks that offer high interest rates? Thank you.
Hi Sob,
Sorry for the late reply..I’m using BPI and Metrobank.
I think these two are better than BDO according to some of the comments I received from visitors of this blog.
You can link also savings accounf of BPI and Metrobank to your MF, stocksand UITF..
Hi Im inquiring about opening an account from canada to philippines, and what are requirements. Thank you very much
Hi Sally,
Normally, you should visit the bank in person to open an account. If you’re in Canada, you may try BPI Direct because it is the only one I know with online application in selected countries like US.
I know they are strict in this rule..and your relative cannot open an account using your name.
Hi Im inquiring about opening an account from australia to Philippines, can I open it from australia and what are the requirements I have to send documents. Thank you

Normally you can open the account number at the back of the ATM card or in the envelope containing your card.
I have a passbook SA in metrobank. however, i want to close it already since i badly need the money. i still have 31k saved in it and i am planning to withdraw all of it. i know that if your balance becomes less than 10k, they will charge you with fees.
would u know if they will still charge u for closing an account or is it ok to just withdraw all of the money? because i dont want to have a bad record in metrobank so if there’s a proper way of closing it then it’s better
Hi RJ,
There’s no fee when closing a bank account. Just simply withdraw all of your money and it will automatically close.

Hi Gil,
I live in Sweden for 5 years and i haven’t deposit some money to my ATM account(metro bank. Is it possible that they will close my account even if i ahve enought balance?thanks
Yzaa
Hi Yzaa,
Some banks will close an account for inactivity.
I’m not sure if you make deposits or withdrawal for your account for the last 5 years.
To make sure why you don’t call your branch to know if it is active or not.

Hi Janette,
You should visit the branch where your account is opened, in las Pinas.

Hi Francy,
You should visit the bank personally because you will sign a signature specimen card.
But if you would like to apply bank account online, you can visit BPI direct, they allow online application

Hi lee,
You can give your fiancee authorization letter to claim your ATM card.
I think you can only claim your atm to the branch where you open the account after 3 days in case for Metrobank based on my experience.
You cannot get your ATM in other branch..

Hi Jep,
Please check the link: http://www.metrobank.com.ph/contact_us.asp
I hope that helps.

Would that be possible for me to open my account. And do you have any affiliated bank here through Cayman Island? Thank you for your soonest reply about this matter.
I have a savings account in your bank and i would like to know how to track down the transactions from my account. Hope you can give me an idea about it. Thanks.

I’m not really sure if they allow withdrawal from passbook in other branch aside from your branch because I don’t have passbook account.
You can contact Metrobank directly to answer your questions.
Mine is only ATM account with online banking. I can withdraw anytime in any ATM machine.
I’d like to open a checking account. I just inquired with a couple of banks and they are requiring that you should have at least 6 months before you can get a checking account. How long will it take to have a checking account with Metrobank?
Normally, they require you to have at least 3-month old savings account.
Because of many bouncing checks reported.
