There are many visitors of this blog looking for ways on how to open a bank account in the Philippines though they are residing abroad. So to answer this question or query, I decided to make an article about opening a bank account even you are outside the Philippines. Most of these people who send me messages through email and comments are OFW and those Filipinos who migrated to other countries that like to have their own bank account in the Philippines.

I believe a bank account is a very important financial tool for all people especially OFW because it is the safest and most practical way to send money to their relatives. I also suggests if you are applying for a new account, make sure to enroll it to Internet banking at the same time so you can check and manage your account wherever you are and whenever you want. Of course, you should have an Internet connection and PC to do that.

Features of BPI Direct

BPI Direct is a subsidiary of BPI. All of the services and products offered by BPI is also provided by BPI Direct, the only difference is that it focuses on customers who frequently use the Internet for their banking activities. You can apply in BPI Direct a savings account, checking account, loans, credit cards, online and mobile banking, telephone banking, investment funds and a lot more.

BPI Direct has no branches, you must go to the main BPI branch where your account is located if you have any problem with your account. However, you can still make banking transactions because it has 24/7 banking that will allow you to access your account at anytime and anywhere there’s an Internet connection.

Some of the banking ways you can do in BPI Direct are:

* ATM. You can access your funds through BPI Express Teller, Expressnet, Bancnet and Megalink ATMs nationwide or through Cirrus ATMs worldwide.

* Phone Banking. You can call Express Phone 89-100 to do banking activities with your account.

* Internet Banking. Log on to www.bpiexpressonline.com. You can also download your electronic statements from 6 months back through this channel.

* Mobile Banking. You can also bank through your cellphone with Express Mobile banking. You should register your number first before you can use this feature.

* Cash Accept Machine. Deposit cash through their Express Deposit machines and it will be credited to your account real-time.

The interest rates given to deposit accounts is the same with BPI, sometimes it offers lower rate for application of loans. Through BPI Direct, you may choose to open a savings account which can be Express Teller, BPInoy savings, Maxi-Saver savings, and Save-Up Automatic Savings+Insurance. You can also open a Maxi-One checking account.

Aside from savings and checking account, you can also apply for time deposit with different schemes: Payout principal and Interest upon maturity, Payout interest and Roll-over principal upon maturity and Roll-over both Principal and Interest upon maturity. It also provide other deposit account like payroll account for your employees if you have any.

Opening a Bank Account Online through BPI Direct

Personally, BPI is the best bank in the Philippines. I think many people will agree to me. They have the best customer service, very good online banking facility, awesome products and rewards and a lot more you want for a bank. In addition to that, BPI also introduced the online application for bank account through their subsidiary BPI Direct.

In my opinion, all OFW should be required to have at least one bank account before they leave the country and work abroad. Many of them don’t have a bank account that’s why they resort to other ways of sending money to the Philippines like “paki-padala”, Western Union and door-to-door remittance service. These methods have higher remittance fee compared than most of the banks charged and more risk. Also, if they have their own bank account, it can be used as a safe place for their savings and the money they earned.

Opening an account through BPI Direct can be a good choice for those who want to have their own bank account. If you are planning to apply, you should visit their website by clicking this link. It will direct you to BPI Direct’s savings account application page.
